Christopher Remillard, 58, was indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter, motor vehicle homicide by negligence, and negligent driving of a motor vehicle in the April 2022 crash, the Worcester County District Attorney's Office said.
Remillard has previously said he was reaching into his pocket to retrieve a $20 bill for gas and didn't see Candice Asare-Yeboah and her mother as they left the Queen Beauty Supply store on Stafford Street. The impact threw the young girl under a parked car. She died of her injuries a month later at a Worcester hospital.
The girl's mother, Asha Nyarko-Asare, was also seriously injured in the crash. She spent several weeks in the hospital but recovered, authorities said.
Investigators said Remillard was driving 47 mph when he crashed into them — 12 miles over the posted speed limit, records show.
Remillard was released on a $1,000 bail when he was arraigned last year, but he is not allowed to drive as a condition of that release, court records said.
A GoFundMe for Asare-Yeboah raised more than $27,000 goal, more than five times its original goal of $5,000. The fundraising page has become a hub for news in the case.
